Imperial College occupies a densely built-up site in the museums quarter of South Kensington (Albertopolis) The Library overlooks the Queens Lawn the colleges most important green space.

 

Extension to the existing library including music facilities. The library involved extensive alterations and additions to the 1960's building. The existing library was engineered to for future expansion and there was no structural problems in adding two new floors to the top. The issues where those of aesthetics practical performance and value for money. The prime requirements was that the library remain open thought out the building works with only a few short closed periods during the vocation

 

The projects objectives was to improve services and provide upgraded and environmentally responsive interior.
